Tesla Solar Roof Tax Credit

Life on earth is fueled by the light and heat from the sun. Approximately, 3850 Zettajoules (ZJ) per year is the total amount of solar energy available to the earth. The sun's energy travels to the earth by way of electromagnetic radiation like radio waves but the frequency range is different. Some of this energy is absorbed as it comes thru the atmosphere. Heat and light are the primary forms of solar energy.

What Qualifies for the Solar Tax Credit

  • The entire bill for a qualified system, minus the sales tax. That includes solar panels; labor costs for on-site preparation, assembly, and installation of the system; and piping or wiring to connect the system to your house.
  • Installation of a solar system in a primary or second house.
  • Systems purchased outright or with a loan.
  • Solar roofing tiles, like those being sold by Tesla. Tesla solar roof tax credit is still available
  • Solar installed in a property that you live in for at least part of the year. That could cover, for instance, a second home that you rent out when you’re not there. The credit is prorated based on how much time you spend in the residence. For a multifamily home in which you live but also collect rent, you may be eligible for either the residential or business tax credit, depending on how much of the property is used for business. Check with a tax expert for details.

What Doesn't Qualify for the Solar Tax Credit

  • Solar installed in an income property in which you don't maintain your own residence.
  • A system that’s leased. In that case, the company that leases it to you gets the credit, though it can pass along all or part of the savings as a discount to you. Pay attention to this kind of the point, So you can get tesla solar roof tax credit.
  • A solar system that's used to heat a swimming pool or hot tub. The IRS is vague, though, about whether you can prorate your credit—that is, claim a portion of the credit if only a portion of the energy is used to heat your home. Talk to a tax expert for advice.

Why you should choose to use Solar Power

Life on earth is fueled by the light and heat from the sun. Approximately, 3850 Zettajoules (ZJ) per year is the total amount of solar energy available to the earth. The sun's energy travels to the earth by way of electromagnetic radiation like radio waves but the frequency range is different. Some of this energy is absorbed as it comes thru the atmosphere. Heat and light are the primary forms of solar energy.

Solar energy has many advantages over conventional energy. The energy from the sun is free the only expense is from recovering the energy. The cost of recovering the sun's energy is recovered faster than with conventional energy. The recovering units don't have to be connected to natural gas or power grids, they stand alone. The supply of solar energy is limitless. It has no emission gases to harm the earth's atmosphere.

There are several ways to recover solar energy:

  1. Focusing collectors: This has a movable mirror, known as heliostats, is pointed to the sun and can provide a temperature around 4000 degrees C. This degree temperature is used for a solar furnace in industries and research. These solar furnaces don't contaminate our environment. The heliostats can focus the energy to a boiler that turns water into steam. To generate solar electricity, focusing collectors can be used.
  2. Flat plate collectors: These collectors can be used in schools and homes to provide heat using water that is heated in pipes. They cannot provide as much heat as the focusing collectors because they are smaller.
  3. Solar distillation: Solar distillation is about the same as flat plate collectors but provides distilled water instead of heat. Seawater is put in tanks or ditches on the roof of a house and the heat from the sun heats and evaporates the water and turns the water vapor into liquid water that is distilled.
  4. Solar electricity: By using focusing collectors and Photovoltaic cells, made of thin pieces of semiconductors, convert radiation from the sun into electricity.
  5. Solar energy would not be affected by the supply and demand of fuel for it is free and it doesn't pollute the atmosphere. It is natural and pure. It would provide us with better health.

There are several ways that we can work together in order to get the best of natural and renewable resources.  Using solar power is not only helpful but it is inspiring to others.  The expenses of using solar energy are less than the cost of using other resources for heat, including electricity and gas. When you use electricity and gas you may have a low cost upfront but in the end, you end up paying for it from now on.

The situation you should know before looking solar intensive

The US Tax Credit to middle and upper-income taxpayers is 26% in 2020. If you don't make enough to use the tax credit yourself, you use a company that takes the tax credits and rents or leases the panels to you and passes on most of the benefit. This is scheduled to go down to 22% in 2021 and to 10% for 2022 and beyond. This would be a reason to buy solar sooner rather than later if it wasn't for 2 countervailing factors.

  • Solar has dropped an average of 16% a year in price (16% a year compounded for 10 years is an 82% fall overall) for the last decade. It is hard to predict whether it will fall more or less than that in the next decade, but there are tremendous research and development in solar worldwide and I don't think we are at the bottom yet. These price reductions could more than make up for the reductions in tax credits scheduled to happen.
  • Joe Biden is currently ahead in the US polls. If he is elected president, he has proposed increasing incentives to "The deployment of clean energy". Of course, he will need Congress to approve any change in law, but it is likely the tax credit will either stay at 26% or be increased if Biden is elected in a few months.

With solar power, you may have an initial investment to turning your home into solar power but after that, you have no reason to pay for it any further unless you use electric or gas for a backup heating source. Solar power was available yesterday, it's available today and hopefully, it will be available for us in the future.
